Design that I chose :

by Yi-Chih Lin

OBSERVATIONS

The design work is in portrait format. In the center, there is a pigeon and human hands holding love with a peace sign on its inside. On the tip of each of the pigeon's feathers there are flags of different countries such as Japan, Switzerland, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, and many more. At the bottom side, there are pictures of humans struggling with water shortage, hunger and poverty, as well as fire to further emphasize their struggles. While at the top side, there are several symbolisms such as pigeon which represents peace, heart which represents love, etc. As for visual elements, the main colors observed are orange, blue, white, gray and black. Overall, it is a colorful design.

ANALYSIS

I see the whole image as peace symbolism to spread awareness of the importance of peace and kindness. There is use of contrasting colors such as orange and blue that create a certain impact on the design. As well as the use of darker color tone with lighter color tone to create highlights. There are variety of colors and shapes in the artwork making it more vibrant, appealing and not monotonous. This poster's visual elements proportion is quite balanced. The weight on both sides of the artwork is almost symmetrical. Although the orange color outshine the blue color in some parts of the design making it a little unbalanced. There are some repetition of elements. For example, the repetition usage of humans with similar color palettes and flags. The poster is designed to highlight the peace symbolism to one's eyes as the main focus, then followed by the other visual components. The designs follow a common theme in both color and shape creating oneness. The pigeon and the symbol inside the heart both symbolize peace and kindness while the heart symbolizes love. The imagery of some people who are struggling and the title, deepens the meaning of the design as well as better conveying the intended message.
