We learned about some basic tools that we will often use in Illustrator. One of the tool was Pen Tool, he then introduced us to The Bezier Game to deepen our understanding of the tool. He instructed us to trace a car by using Pen Tool.

Week 3

Mr. Hafiz explained about character design. Character design often used for animated films, comics, toys, games, advertisements, etc. There are 3 key elements in character design which are:

  • Silhouette

You can use a character's silhouette to indicate effective character design. Here are some examples:

  • Palette
The usage of color in a character is referred to as palette. It is crucial to make one primary color and utilize additional colors to support that color.

  • Exaggeration
Exaggeration is the deliberate use of specific features to provoke emotional and psychological responses from a character's audience. For example, the exaggerated features in the image below might highlight the difference between heroic and scary.

Composition theory is how the elements of art and design - line, shape, form, color, texture, value, and space - are laid out in accordance to the principles of art and design - scale, proportion, unity, variety, rhythm, mass, shape, space, balance, contrast, emphasis, volume, perspective, and depth.

REFLECTIONS

After learning about character design, tracing, Chiaroscuro, composition theory, I gain knowledge on how to make vector and better understanding how to make a good composition. I also learned a lot of Adobe Illustrator tools and tricks which help me become more familiarize with Adobe Illustrator. Overall, this module is really fun and interesting.
