IDEA & CONCEPT

First, I tried to search for references and ideas for my design. I began by exploring the overall design direction I wanted to follow. Since the topic of my dissertation focuses on live-action adaptation of animated film, I tried to include that aspect in my design.

DESIGN PROGRESS

After I decided on my design direction. I opened Adobe InDesign and start preparing the layout.

Setting Column & Margin

I used consistent margin with 19 mm for Top, Bottom, Inside and for Outside I used 12.7 mm. I made it to 2 column layout with 8 mm Gutter.

Designing Cover Page

After seeting up the column and margin, I began designing my cover design. I tried to combine fonts to highlight the title for example for "Animated Film" I used a more cartoonish font and for "Live-Action" I used more proffesional font. Here is my first design:

After consulting with the lecturer, she said I need to experiment more with the design, make more variation, for example maybe not all the title have lines. So I went back to InDesign and tried another design.

Designing Other Page

I decided to go with it, and started designing the next pages. I want atleast 2-4 pages before it reach the first content, so I copied my dissertation title to the next 2-4 pages. I added information such as my name, my school, etc. I also tried to incorporate "culture" in my design because it was one of my dissertation topic, so I added some Batik motive to represent "culture". In few pages, I also wanted to include some cartoon character, animated vs live action side by side image, etc.
