INSTRUCTIONS

FINAL PROJECT

Idea Development:

For the final project, we are given a selection of short stories or poems of Edgar Allan PoeWe were required to make:

  • Comic Cover Page
  • Animated One Page Intro

The story that I chose was "The Black Cat", published in 1845.  I read it and decided to choose this part of the story to illustrate and animate.

This paragraph described a high tension and scary moment in the story.

My Idea:
  1. Panel 1: Show that the "I" or "me" character return home while intoxicated in the middle of stormy rain.
  2. Panel 2: Portray a black cat back facing the "I" or "me" character while growling or hissing to show frightness.
  3. Panel 3: Show the black cat get held by the neck and then bites the "I" or "me" character.
  4. Panel 4: Portray the "I" or "me" character get possessed, while holding a knife directing to the black cat.
  5. Panel 5: Describe the black cat perspective from the back

Comic Cover Page:

My idea was to highlight the sharp cat's eye to enhance and further emphasize the high tension and horror vibes of the story.

Digitization:

I come up with 2 designs. After some thinking, I decided to go with the first one because I like it better. After that, I start sketching the story.

REFLECTION

Designing the comic cover and animating the comic was an engaging project that required a blend of artistic and technical skills. It involved creating a visually appealing cover that represents the comic’s story and characters, followed by animating the comic panels to add a dynamic dimension to the storytelling.

Creating the comic cover honed my skills in visual composition, color usage, and typography. I learned how to craft an eye-catching cover that effectively communicates the comic's theme. I also gained experience in animating comic panels, including techniques for smooth transitions, timing, and incorporating audio. This project improved my ability to animate complex sequences while maintaining the integrity of the original artwork. Overall, I enjoyed the experience making this project.
